Head of World Languages

Reports to:
Associate Head of Upper School & MYP Coordinator

Job Purpose

a) To lead a team that provides high quality teaching and education provision for all students.
b) Establish, monitor and evaluate strategic vision and planning for the development of World Languages (French, German, Mandarin and Spanish) to become an outstanding department.
c) To recognise the Spark of Genius in every child and endeavour to follow the Dwight vision, mission and pillars in every aspect of the role.

Role and Responsibilities

  1. Teaching & Learning
    • Model high quality teaching and set high expectations for staff in relation to teaching standards.
    • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning in the department and use findings to identify effective practice and areas for improvement. Take action to further improve the quality of teaching and learning.
    • Ensure consistently high quality teaching is a department priority. Establish and sustain a strong culture for high quality teaching and learning.
    • Create and maintain a vibrant, inclusive classroom/corridor/meeting environment, effectively organising physical space to maximise learning.
  2. Planning & Assessment
    • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of subject content and IB Programme/s.
    • Ensure that curriculum scope and sequence, unit plans, resources and assessment, are developed and in place, according to IB standards and school policy and practice, for all grades and subjects. This must include suitable provision for SEN, G&T and EAL students.
    • Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of assessment, in line with the school’s assessment policy, including effective use of data to inform planning, teaching and intervention.
    • Develop, review and evaluate effective marking and moderation in the department.
    • Establish, monitor and evaluate short, medium and long term plans for the development of the department. Plans will support the school’s strategic planning and any recommendations from Inspection / Accreditation.
  3. Professional Responsibilities:
    • With department members, plan, lead and evaluate a high quality and exciting ECA programme for World Languages, including participation in local / regional / national language events and competitions.
    • With department members, plan and coordinate MYP & DP booster / revision sessions.
    • Line and performance manager of the department. Establish clear expectations with the department, ensuring collaboration and support.
    • Undertake relevant training and professional development related to the role.
    • Support school events and activities.
    • Ensuring collaboration and support for all stakeholders.
    • Consistently demonstrate professionalism and high professional standards.
    • Actively participate in the professional (Dwight) community.
    • Any other reasonable duties and additional hours of work as directed by the Head of School or the MYP Coordinator.
MYP/DP Mathematics Teacher

Reports to:
Head of Mathematics

Job Purpose

a) To carry out the professional duties of a teacher in accordance with the school’s policies and procedures in order to provide high quality teaching and assessment, that leads to improved standards of learning, engagement, and achievement for all students.
b) To recognise the Spark of Genius in every child and endeavour to follow the Dwight vision, mission and pillars in every aspect of the role.

Role and Responsibilities

  1. Lesson Planning, Teaching and Learning
    • Planning for outstanding teaching and assessment in line with the schools Teaching and Learning, and Assessment policies.
    • Maintaining high standards in accordance with the school’s Behaviour for Learning Policy and encouraging good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, uniform, standards of work and homework (home learning).
    • Ensure scope and sequence, unit and lesson planning is up to date, accurate and in line with IB and school requirements.
  2. Assessment, recording, reporting
    • Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use them to improve specific aspects of teaching and learning.
    • Mark students work regularly, set targets for progress, and moderate, in accordance with the school’s Assessment (Marking & Feedback) policy.
    • Assess and record students’ progress systematically and keep records; using performance data to inform planning, teaching, intervention, student learning and progress;
    • Prepare and present informative reports to parents in line with Report Writing Guidelines.
  3. Professional duties and responsibilities
    • For Upper School – to be an Advisor or Co-Advisor and teach Moral Education.
    • For Upper School – the FireFly platform is kept up-to-date with planning and resources, as directed by the Head of Upper School.
    • To be a DP Extended Essay Supervisor / MYP Personal Project Supervisor / PYP Exhibition Supervisor, if required.
    • Undertake duties as part of the staff duty rota and cover for absent colleagues.
    • Invigilate / proctor examinations and assessments, as required.
    • Undertake relevant training and professional development related to the role.
    • Support school events and activities, including the ECA programme.
    • Ensuring collaboration and support for all stakeholders.
    • Consistently demonstrate professionalism and high professional standards.
    • Actively participate in the professional (Dwight) community.
    • Any other reasonable duties and additional hours of work as assigned by the Head of School and Head of Mathematics.
  4. Requirements:
    • A degree in Mathematics or Mathematics-related subject and qualified teacher status.
    • Proven experience teaching MYP and DP Mathematics at high school level is highly desirable.
    • Strong passion for teaching and Mathematics.
ELL Higher-level Teaching Assistant

Reports to:
Designated school leader

Hours of work:
7:30 am start time Monday to Friday.
4:30 pm finish time on Monday; 3:30 pm Tuesday to Thursday;
12:00 pm Friday.

Job Purpose
a) To support students and teachers inside and outside the classroom.
b) To recognise the Spark of Genius in every child and endeavour to follow the Dwight vision, mission and pillars in every aspect of the role.

Role and Responsibilities

  1. Teaching and Learning
    • Planning for one-to-one and small group intervention and support for learners, in line with the schools Teaching & Learning and Assessment policies.
    • Assist the teacher with planning and assessment for outstanding teaching and learning, in line with the school Teaching and Learning and Assessment policies:
      • Creating a climate for learning that is conducive for outstanding practice.
      • Ensuring the needs of all learners are met through differentiation / personalised learning.
    • Support the teacher by maintaining discipline in accordance with the school’s Behaviour for Learning policy and encouraging good practice with regard to attendance, punctuality, uniform, and standards of classwork and homework.
  2. Other duties
    • Undertake duties as part of the staff duty rota and cover for absent colleagues.
    • Undertake relevant training and professional development related to the role.
    • Support school events and activities.
    • Ensuring collaboration and support for all stakeholders.
    • Consistently demonstrate professionalism and high professional standards.
    • Actively participate in the professional (Dwight) community.
    • Any other reasonable duties and additional hours of work as assigned by the Head of Lower School or Head of School.
Primary Learning Support Assistant

Reports to:
Designated school leader

Hours of work:
7:30 am start time Monday to Friday.
4:30 pm finish time on Monday; 3:30 pm Tuesday to Thursday;
12:00 pm Friday.
