Sport

Sport

Dwight is committed to the development of the whole child, including physical well-being. Through Physical Education classes and a wide range of extra-curricular programmes and competitive teams, students have opportunities to set goals, develop their skills, and excel in both individual and team sports.

The termly and seasonal sports programme can be viewed in the updated ECA & Sports Term 1 Brochure. As part of Dwight’s philosophy of delivering personalised learning, we offer multiple pathways that allow students to explore different sports and experience competition in a safe but rewarding environment.

EXTRA CURRICULAR
ACTIVITIES:

Through a range of external providers, students can engage in a friendly, play based experience aimed at developing and refining key skills.

Our external providers are quality, vetted providers with experience of delivering excellent provision in the UAE. Our range of ECAs includes STEM, Robotics & Coding, Football, Gymnastics, Tennis, Nutrition and Music.

Development
Squads

Development squads are the first step into competitive sport.

Offered through the PHE Department and external providers, the Development Squads allow students to further develop key skills in a sport of choice. Once ready, students will be able to ‘trial’ for the competitive sports teams.

Competitive DASSA
Sports Teams

Delivered by the PHE Department on a seasonal basis, the competitive sports teams compete in the ‘DASSA’ school sports league with other schools in Dubai.

This is delivered on a seasonal basis, with weekly training sessions complimenting the matchday programme. Students in the competitive sports teams will be expected to trial for the team at the start of the season, and commit to weekly training sessions and matches. Additional opportunities for the competitive sports teams include DASSA regional tournaments, Dubai School Games, and bi-annual Sports Tours.

Swimming at
Dwight School Dubai

Swimming is a key life skill and extended opportunities will be delivered for those who wish to further their skills, such as competitive swimming through our swim squads, assisting internal house swimming galas or through lifeguard training.

Students in Grades PreK-G4 will swim once a week, all year round (alongside a weekly PE lesson). In Grade 5, students will swim for one term per year (2 hour lesson for 10-12 weeks). From AY 25/26, Swimming will be phased into the MYP curriculum, starting with Grade 6 students who will swim for one term per year (2 hour lessons for 10-12 weeks).

MYP swimming lessons are always seperated by gender (boys and girls swim in seperate terms).
The swimming curriculum is sequenced so that students progress their skills across all four strokes and develop knowledge of pool and water safety. Once skills are secured, students explore more advanced concepts such as life saving, Water Polo and team games, and ‘Aquathon’. Our swimming programme is delivered in partnership with Urban Swim Academy, who assist with lesson instruction, swimming event delivery and staff training.

Urban Swim Academy also deliver regular ECAs at Dwight and offer a comprehensive evening academy programme at Dwight.
